Kevin's Story

Darkest moment in your life:

After serving in the inner city for almost 4 years, I have to come realize just how blessed I truly am. I grew up with a wonderful family in a great neighborhood with great friends. Hearing some of the stories you hear in the Tenderloin and Project Bayview, you just can’t believe what people have gone through.

What is even more amazing is that the people who might be the most upset with God because of what happened in their life’s are the ones that love him the most. But if I had to pick one moment, when my work told me that I either needed to find another job or go and seek help for my addiction. That was a real low point in my life.

Greatest moment/victory in your life:

Well, I still have nightmares that I didn’t graduate college, so finishing school (in 4 years!) is a big one. Also, being sober from drugs (since 2011) and alcohol (since 2008) are victories that I never thought would have been possible.

How did you hear about Project Bayview:

I heard about PBV through the grapevine. I knew a lot of guys that worked at City Impact and when the ministry that I worked at in the Tenderloin closed down, I was looking for a place where I could live in community and grow in my walk with Jesus. I reached out to a couple of guys here and it looked like it was a great fit.

Future Goals:

1. Start my own Christian intentional living community. 2. Hike the Appalachian trail. 3. Write a book.

What is God teaching you today:

He is teaching me so much right now. Patience, unconditional love, and gratitude are always things I am looking to practice more of. God’s desire for holiness in my life is also something I am really trying to grasp and that being faithful in the small things really does matter.

Most insane thing you have ever done/ experienced:

Climbing the Grand Teton with my brother and Dad was pretty awesome and something that I am proud of. Zip lining through the rain forest is Costa Rica was pretty rad, too.

List 3 fun facts that people don’t know about you:

1. I have a twin brother (fraternal.) 2. I majored in history and minored in political science in college. 3. I used to play the saxophone.

Favorite movie:

Braveheart

Favorite dish & dessert:

Dish — Ribeye Steak. Dessert — Anything with caramel

Kevin's Favorite Scripture

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
— 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
